I have never upholstered anything in my life. I am going to upholster a Baker Furniture sofa I had covered in white velvet for 20+ years in a Cowtan & Towt chenille. I know I must be insane. So far, the pleats and skirting I replicated are perfect. I have all the welting covered. Is there an order for what is done first? Inside back, then inside arms, outside arms, etc?
Secondly, when are metal tack strips used? On every seam with welting? On one or both sides?
It is my understanding, curve-ease is used only on curves.

I worked assembly line for furniture and owned personal business, but now retired and do it as a hobby. All couches and chairs are in the following order:
1)Over springs, burlap, and padding- Place edge roll,decking material, and front band.
2)Inside Arms.
3)Inside Back (or back cushion if not loose cushion).
4)Outside arms.(after any welt or cording).
5)Outside back.(after any welt or cording).
6)Skirting (or bottom welt/cording).
7)Bottom dust cover/cambric.
8)Feet/legs if required.
9)Bottom/Seat cshions (Back pillows or cushions, too. If applicable).
For question on straight tack strip or flex: Down the front sides of outter arms and outside back use straight strips, if line is straight. If front edge of outter arms or top of back is curved-use flex. Straight strips lay tacks "up" along outside edge, push material over tacks, roll strip over and hammer into place. Flex gets stapled into place-Trim material along contour formed (approx. 1/2" larger) lightly start to close flex material, then tuck in fabric material, (teth will then hold in place),and hammer the rest of the molding shut. Hope this helps!
